THE Prime Minister is hoping that TT athletes who wish to be vaccinated before the 2021 Tokyo Olympics will be able to do so locally.

On Thursday in Conversations with the Prime Minister at the Mt Hope/Mt Lambert Community Centre, Dr Rowley responded to a question on whether there is any plan to vaccinate Olympic athletes and officials in order for them to participate in the 2021 Olympics from July 23-August 8.

Rowley said, “Since we as a country don’t have the vaccine, we can’t say yes (now), but I am sure by the time they are ready to go, all things being equal, we should be able to have vaccines, and certainly those athletes who would like to be vaccinated should be able to be vaccinated here.”

The International Olympic Committee is encouraging all athletes to be vaccinated before the Olympics begin, but it is not mandatory.

The Olympic Games were originally scheduled to be held from July 24-August 9 last year, but were postponed because of covid19.
